Today, her career unfolds at the crossroads of several worlds: opera productions, orchestral conducting, recital and vocal coaching. From the Staatsoper Berlin to Glyndebourne, from Cologne to Zürich, from Barcelona to Bregenz, Amandine Duchênes pursues a European career grounded in an intimate knowledge of the voice, languages and styles, serving a repertoire as vast as it is diverse, and works alongside artists at the highest level.

I

On the opera stage

Most recently, as Senior Coach at the Glyndebourne Festival, she worked on the production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail, under the musical direction of Evan Rogister. She has also been invited to work as a vocal coach at the Teatr Wielki Academy in Warsaw.

From 2016 to 2021, Amandine Duchênes held a permanent position as répétiteur at the Cologne Opera. This formative experience allowed her to explore an exceptionally diverse repertoire and collaborate closely with all the institution’s artistic forces, including internationally renowned soloists, young artists from the Opera Studio and the opera chorus.

Her work there included the production of Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Die Soldaten, staged by La Fura dels Baus, a work widely regarded as one of the most complex and demanding scores in twentieth-century opera.

II

A repertoire without borders

Her exceptional versatility across the repertoire regularly leads opera houses to engage her for productions spanning a wide range of musical styles and artistic demands. From eighteenth-century opera to contemporary works, and from the great masterpieces of the German repertoire to French, Italian and Russian opera, she has developed an in-depth understanding of the styles, languages and vocal characteristics specific to each work. Her ability to navigate such diverse musical worlds has become a defining feature of her international career.

Amandine Duchênes has developed recognised expertise in working with singers and preparing opera productions musically. Her extensive knowledge of the repertoire, high musical standards and particular sensitivity to the relationship between text, language and music make her a valued partner for both singers and artistic teams.

Her expertise in the French repertoire and French language has also been consistently praised by critics. Her work was particularly noted in the Bregenzer Festspiele production of George Enescu’s Œdipe, as well as in La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein at the Cologne Opera. Specialist press reviews have repeatedly highlighted the quality of the diction, vocal projection and musical preparation she brings to her work with singers and chorus members.

“Everyone is excellent, in their acting, vocal projection and pronunciation of French alike.”

Jean-Marcel Humbert · Forum Opéra · Œdipe

“The soloists have also worked on their fundamentals, and their French diction (…) leaves nothing to be desired.” Of the chorus: “Impeccable French.” “Diction and projection were worked out with remarkable care.”

Tania Bracq · Forum Opéra · La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein

Her work as a pianist and chamber musician also holds an essential place in her artistic career. Amandine Duchênes regularly performs in recitals alongside leading singers, including Mélissa Petit, Éléonore Pancrazi and Jenny Daviet. She also collaborates with renowned choirs, including the Choir of Radio France.

Over the course of her career she has worked with major figures of the international opera scene. She has notably accompanied soprano Diana Damrau for German television, and took part in a tour of Germany of the show Mon mari est toujours en vadrouille, created for the celebrations of the 200th anniversary of Jacques Offenbach’s birth.
